Just as well building custom cabinets is what they do for a living, because SpaceCraft Joinery has just wrapped up the 2016 award season in magnificent style by securing two major trophies and a commendation on Saturday 8 October at the South Australian HIA Awards.

The stunning surprise came right at the end when the retro kitchen that had already won the Renovated Kitchen up to $30,000 category was then named South Australian Kitchen of the Year, despite it coming from the lowest-priced category to defeat some mega-budget kitchens.

That means it now goes on to compete against the other states’ winners for the title of Australian Kitchen of the Year at next year’s national HIA Awards.

Rounding out the achievements, SpaceCraft also took out a commendation for another project in the New Kitchen up to $30,000 category.

Although this is the fifth time SpaceCraft has entered the HIA Awards, this was the first attended by the  team, who could not only enjoy the glamour of the big night but celebrate the success they had all contributed to as well. Like they say, timing is everything.

Over the last five years, SpaceCraft’s ascendancy has been rapid and consistent. With the exception of 2013, the small, family firm with the big reputation has now won the same category at the South Australian HIA awards (Renovated Kitchen up to $30,000) four times.

And in that gap year, Ellen Wundersitz still upheld the company name by taking out the Business Partner of the Year award.

In 2016 alone, added to the South Australian Kitchen of the Year at the HIA awards, Nathan also won the state’s Kitchen Designer of the Year at the KBDi awards with a different kitchen.

What a night. What a year.

And for that, SpaceCraft would like to thank and honour all four clients who so generously allowed it to enter their kitchens into this year’s HIA awards and then allowed the judges to enter their homes: Suzannah and Shannon; Nahtanha and Rhys; Sharon and Paul, whose kitchen won the Commendation; and Deborah and Bob, whose Art Déco joy became Kitchen of the Year.
