Your First Chapter in Design Starts Here

by Karen Costa, March 2026

As they say, every great journey starts somewhere—and we’re looking for a Junior Designer at the beginning of theirs, ready to learn, contribute, and help shape spaces that truly matter, based out of our studio in Strathalbyn.

This role would suit someone currently studying Interior Design or Interior Architecture—who’s naturally drawn to the details. The kind of person who notices the little things, questions how everything melds together, and is curious about how great design evolves from an idea into a space people live in and love.

At SpaceCraft, we create one-of-a-kind kitchens and bespoke joinery for homes across South Australia. Every project is personal and designed to feel as good as it looks and built to last. Each project is thoughtfully tailored to our clients—their needs, their lifestyle, and how they live in their space. We’re proud of the work we create—thoughtfully designed, personal and recognised within the design community along the way.

As a Junior Designer, you’ll step into our close-knit, collaborative studio where no two days look the same working alongside our in-house design team and gaining hands-on experience. From early client conversations and concept development right through to joinery installation and seeing each project come to life in our workshop.

This is your chance to build real-world experience, refine your skills, and develop a sharp eye for detail—while being part of a team that genuinely cares about what we create, and the people behind-the-scenes bringing it to life.

If you’re passionate about thoughtful design, love the finer details, and are excited by the idea of turning concepts into real, lived-in spaces—we’d love to hear from you.

What the Role Involves

This role plays a key role supporting the design team, gaining exposure across the full project lifecycle. This is a hands-on opportunity to build both your creative thinking and technical skillset, while learning how great design comes together behind the scenes.

Day-to-day, you may assist with:

  • Preparing for design consultations, including documenting site details and taking photos
  • Design research, material sourcing, and product selections
  • Developing mood boards and presentation documentation
  • Entering project information and selections into our FileMaker system (internal database)
  • Preparing documentation to support our estimating, procurement, and drafting team
  • Assisting with award submissions and marketing content
  • Coordinating client gift bags for delivery

Through this experience, you’ll gain a clear understanding of how ideas evolve—from early concepts through to fully resolved joinery solutions, ready to be crafted and brought to life.

Who This Role Might Suit

We’re open to a range of candidates who are excited to grow their skills in joinery and interior detailing, and keen to be part of a team that values both creativity and structure.

You might be:

  • Currently studying Interior Design or Interior Architecture and looking to gain part-time industry experience alongside your studies
  • At the beginning of your design career, with a growing interest in kitchens and joinery design
  • Someone who enjoys a blend of creative thinking and technical problem-solving

We’re particularly drawn to people who are organised, naturally curious and eager to learn—someone who thrives within structured processes that help projects run smoothy.

Working at Space Craft

We’d ideally love this role to be full-time, but we understand that life (and study) doesn’t always fit into a 9–5—so we’re open to flexible working arrangements, including part-time hours, for the right person.

Our studio and workshop are based in Strathalbyn on the Fleurieu Peninsula, where our design, production, and installation teams all work closely together. It means you’re not just designing from a desk—you’ll see how ideas come together in real time, alongside the people bringing them to life.

This role isn’t just a stepping stone—it’s a pathway. As your skills and confidence grow, there’s a clear progression from Junior Designer to a fully-fledged Designer, independently leading and managing your own projects within the studio.
