Last week, a few of our crew from both the design studio and workshop head down the hill for an evening at TAFE SA Tonsley, attending the KBDi South Australian Chapter Event—a night celebrating great design, industry collaboration, and the announcement of the 2026 KBDi South Australian Design Awards finalists.
Before the big reveal, we all enjoyed catching up with fellow designers, suppliers, and industry peers over drinks, canapés, and a guided tour with Kevin Burns, the Educational Manager Advanced Building Studies & Surveying, of the impressive Tonsley campus.
With spanning almost 45,000 square metres, the campus delivers world-class, energy-efficient training facilities that support South Australia’s $4.5 billion building and construction industry. What caught our attention was seeing all the trades under one roof—cabinet making, building, painting and decorating, furniture finishing and more.
But as interesting as the campus was, there was one announcement everyone was quietly waiting for.
This year, our designers entered five projects:
Flying the SpaceCraft flag on the night we had Sarah and Beth both in Large Kitchens, Nathan in Kitchens Plus, Themed Design, Design Spaces and Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) of the Year, Jessie in Large Bathrooms, as well as Beth with her very first award submission, Diem & Rich, in the First Time Entrant category too (woohoo).
Then came the moment we’d all been waiting for.
We’re incredibly proud to share that each SpaceCraft project entered was named a finalist in the 2026 KBDi South Australian Design Awards.
While it’s always exciting to see projects being recognised, these nominations represent more than beautiful spaces. Behind every project is a whole team of people—from the first client conversation and design concepts through to programming, manufacturing, installation, and every detail in between.
It’s a reflection of the creativity of our designers, the intricate work of our detailers & craftsmanship of our cabinet makers and installers, and the collaboration that happens every day in our studio and workshop right here in Strathalbyn.
Pictured from left to right are Jessie, Beth and Sarah, celebrating the announcement on the night. Nathan, while also named a finalist, unfortunately missed the event as he was spending some well-earned time with his family.
The winners will be announced this August at the Gala Night in Sydney, where we’ll join designers from across Australia to celebrate the very best our industry has to offer.
Until then, a big thank you to our incredible clients who trusted us with their homes, and ideas.
Congratulations to all the finalists—Sydney, we’ll see you soon!
