Once upon a time, most of the timber we polished at SpaceCraft was what we affectionately call “timber pop” – the solid timber and veneer elements that add warmth, texture and character to a kitchen or joinery project.
These days, that’s forever evolving.
We’re increasingly being engaged to design and manufacture spaces where timber takes centre stage in our client’s homes. Full timber and veneer kitchens, feature wall panelling, libraries, wine rooms and other bespoke joinery are becoming a much bigger part of what we do. As a result, we’re looking for an experienced Polisher to join our growing team.
As our in-house Polisher, you’ll be responsible for preparing, sanding and finishing those timber and veneer components, bringing out the natural beauty of the material before they’re carefully fitted into the completed joinery in our workshop, ready for delivery and installation.
If you enjoy working with timber, take pride in achieving a quality finish, and appreciate the satisfaction of seeing a project come together, this could be the role for you.
More than just polishing
This is an important role within our production team.
Because these timber and veneer components are fitted into the completed joinery before it leaves our workshop, the finish needs to be spot on. If it’s not, it can hold up an entire project. That’s why we’re looking for someone with a keen eye for detail who takes genuine pride in getting things right the first time.
You’ll work closely with our Cabinet Makers and Production Manager to ensure finished components are ready on time for assembly and installation. Along the way you’ll also help maintain our spray booth and equipment, manage polishing materials and consumables, and keep workflow moving smoothly through the finishing area.
As our family-run business continues to grow, we’re looking for someone who wants to grow with us. Over time, there’ll be opportunities to mentor apprentices and potentially help us bring 2-pac painting in-house, further expanding the capability of our workshop.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys producing a consistently high-quality finish.
Ideally, you’ll have experience with:
- Timber preparation and sanding
- Clear coat finishing
- 2-pac spray finishing (highly regarded)
- Solid timber and veneer products
A trade qualification in furniture finishing, cabinet making or a related trade would be an advantage, but it’s not essential.
If you’ve developed strong spray-finishing skills in another industry—such as automotive refinishing—and are looking for a new challenge working with timber, we’d also love to hear from you.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is:
- Reliable and dependable
- Hardworking and enthusiastic
- Proactive and willing to use your initiative
- Physically capable of manual handling, including lifting and moving large items
- A positive team player
