On Saturday, 15 August, our design team, along with Nath and Elle—packed their bags and headed to Sydney for the weekend for the annual KBDi Awards held at the Hyatt Regency.
We arrived with six finalist entries across a handful of categories, surrounded by some seriously impressive design talent from across the country. So, naturally, there was a little anticipation in the air. And perhaps a few fingers and toes crossed.
The South Australian Kitchen category was a particularly strong field this year. With five projects in the running, we allowed ourselves to wonder if this might be our year.
It wasn’t quite to be. We were pipped at the post by two very deserving winners: Stefan Vignogna, who took home Australian Certified Designer of the Year 2026 as well as Kitchens Plus NT + SA, and Sophie Katina, who won Large Kitchens NT + SA.
Congratulations to them both — very well-deserved wins in an incredibly strong field.
Thankfully, the evening still had a little SpaceCraft magic in store.
Jessie took home the South Australian Large Bathrooms (SA + NT) award for her beautiful bathroom design for Nick & Dot. And what might have made this one feel even more special was that Jessie had only returned to the design studio late last year after maternity leave.
To come back, dive straight back into the world of deadlines, design and projects — and then walk away with a KBDi award — is a pretty wonderful way to mark her return. A fantastic result for Jessie, and one that was very well deserved.
Nathan’s mid-century masterpiece for Tim & Lisa took out Traditional or Themed Design, with the judges recognising the beautifully executed mid-century-inspired kitchen for its rich combination of stained Tasmanian Oak, rose quartzite and crisp Kit-Kat tiles. Exceptional craftsmanship and seamlessly integrated appliances give the space a sophisticated, furniture-like quality, creating a strong focal point within the open-plan home.
Our Art Deco showroom space also took home the award for Design Spaces / Commercial, described by the judges as a “masterclass in design and craftsmanship.” With its bold Art Deco influence, moody burgundy palette and striking Rosso Lepanto marble, the space is finished with an extraordinary solid-brass benchtop, creating a distinctive and memorable commercial environment that showcases the craftsmanship and attention to detail at the heart of SpaceCraft.
Three wins from six entries. We’ll absolutely take that.
But beyond the awards themselves, nights like these are a good reminder to pause the day-to-day, step away from the studio and spend some proper time together as a team. They’re also a chance to see the calibre of design work happening across the country — and to come home with plenty of inspiration.
And, of course, there was celebrating to be done.
Once the formalities wrapped up, the dance floor got a workout before the sensible among us decided it was time to call it a night.
The less sensible found their way to the rooftop bar. We’ll let you guess who landed in that camp. The following morning may have provided a few clues.
Three wins from six very different projects is a result we’re incredibly proud of. But perhaps more importantly, we’re proud of each individual behind them — from Jessie and Nath, whose designs took home the honours, to the entire SpaceCraft team who bring those ideas to life.
Congratulations, Jessie and Nath — and cheers to the whole SpaceCraft team. Three wins? That called for a proper celebration.
Wine, beer, Espresso Martinis or an Aperol Spritz — everyone had their drink of choice, and there was certainly no shortage of glasses being raised throughout the night.
But another big thanks go to the clients who trust us with their homes in the first place. Allowing us into your home, sharing your ideas and then giving us the freedom to design something that feels truly yours is no small thing. That trust is a huge part of what makes the work we do so rewarding — and when there’s trust in the process, great things can happen.
We’re incredibly grateful to every client who puts their home, their ideas and their trust in our hands. Because behind every award is a client who gave us the opportunity to create something special.
Three awards, six finalist projects and a team we couldn’t be prouder of—we’ll raise a glass to that!
