Custom Horse Tack Room & Kitchenette

by Karen Costa, June 2025

I don’t gallop, yet I live in the tack.
I shoulder the weight when gear comes back.
Crafted with care, I stand with grace—
A tidy companion in your stable space.
What am I?

You guessed it—a saddle rack. But not just any saddle rack.

While we may be best known for our kitchens and one-of-a-kind interior joinery, our design expertise extends far beyond the home.

We recently had the opportunity to reimagine what a tack room could be, designing a space that’s as hardworking as it is beautifully resolved.

Nestled beside a sandstone-clad arena and framed by V-jay panelling and exposed brick, this wasn’t just a cabinetry job—it was a carefully considered response to a delightfully specific brief.

Our clients were after a space that could store gear, reset between rides, and welcome friends for a post-training cuppa. The aesthetic needed to feel warm, grounded and in keeping with the property’s heritage charm. We leaned into a natural material palette, using Tasmanian Oak for its soft tones (without the orange cast) and granite for its durability and tonal connection to the existing tiled floor.

Function was paramount. A custom saddle wall with integrated lighting now holds eight saddles with ease, while tailored storage zones accommodate bridles, helmets, heavy blankets and everyday gear.

The kitchenette includes everything you’d expect—coffee nook, sink, full-size fridge, under-bench microwave, dishwasher—framed by a curved granite splashback that echoes the arched windows which look out to the surrounding property.

An island bench anchors the space with cantilevered timber seating, dual-sided storage, and a sculptural leg detail. What were once standard arena windows are now built-in bar tops—perfect for watching the action with a cuppa in hand.

This was joinery with purpose—designed to work hard, age well, and reflect the lifestyle it supports.
