The ladies led the way for SpaceCraft at this year’s HIA Awards.

The HIA Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards provide home builders and designers the opportunity to receive recognition and showcase their work to the broader industry.

At this year’s awards, held on Saturday Nov 26 at the Adelaide Convention Centre, the women of SpaceCraft Joinery were significant winners, and their leading man, Design Director Nathan Wundersitz, couldn’t be prouder.

For starters, it was his protégé, designer Bre Tarca, whose design for Anne and Mark’s kitchen won both the Kitchen of the Year Renovated Kitchen up to $45K category, as well as Kitchen Design of the Year (a major category).

This meant that she beat him too! Nathan’s design for Celine and Tristan’s kitchen was entered in the New Kitchen $45,001 – $65,000 category as well as the Kitchen Design of the Year category.

While Nathan didn’t win either category, he’s taking consolation in the fact that the house his kitchen featured, won twice for Dellatorre Construction – Renovation/Addition Project of the Year and Renovation /Addition Project $500,001 to $750,000. That house was laden with SpaceCraft’s joinery. Enough said.

Sadly, Bre was experiencing that recently revived sensation of commitment clash on Saturday night. She missed a playful night with almost half of her team, and their favourite rep Mark Brown (aka Browny). We’re told she was kept well informed of all proceedings by a flurry of text and phone calls.

SpaceCraft can now say they’ve won Kitchen Design of the Year three (3) of the last four (4) years – in 2019, 2020 and 2022. They openly acknowledge results like these are a team effort as it takes a lot of different parties to bring a project to fruition.

Back to Nathan and his sense of pride. He was beaming, of course, when his wife, Managing Director Ellen Wundersitz, took home the Professional Woman of the Year award Saturday night. This was the culmination of Ellen’s win of the Professional Business Woman award at the HIA Building Women Awards held Friday 23 Sep at Adelaide Oval.

With Bre and Ellen now both set to represent South Australia at the national level next year (competing at the 2023-HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards in May), it’s fair to say that the SpaceCraft team is entering the silly season with a spring in its step.

Speaking of silly season – they’ll be closing for a well-earned break at 1pm on Wednesday 21st December and reopen officially on Monday 16th January 2023.
