SpaceCraft finishes 2019 as South Australia’s most accomplished kitchen company.

by Ellen Wundersitz, November 2019

In the three major state and national kitchen competitions they entered this year, SpaceCraft Joinery has been honoured by three different sets of judges with an enviable array of trophies.

This culminated on Saturday 9 November at the HIA Awards for South Australia, where – once again – the team from the family-owned business from Strathalbyn made a tremendous impact on the results as well as the dance floor.

Not only did SpaceCraft win in the Renovated Kitchen and New Kitchen categories for kitchens up to $35,000; it also took out South Australia’s overall Kitchen Design of the Year. This means SpaceCraft will be going to the Gold Coast in May 2020 to compete for our state and the HIA national title.

Whilst SpaceCraft has pretty much had a mortgage on the sub-$35,000 build category at the HIA awards ever since it first entered in 2012, proprietors Nathan and Ellen Wundersitz were surprised and delighted when the higher-budgeted project for David & Verity was announced as the state’s Kitchen Design of the Year.

After all, SpaceCraft might have made its name building champagne joinery on beer budgets. But the company’s hallmark craftsmanship and visionary design work has increasingly brought bolder projects from across the state. As the judges said in praise of the winning project: “The designer’s keen eye and attention to detail enabled this stunning kitchen to be produced. The clever use of timber on the island bench helped create a beautiful space for the client to cook and entertain.”
